Essential Information

Essential Information for 7-day Espiritupampa Trekking

The Briefing:

The briefing session for your 7-day Espiritupampa Trekking adventure is scheduled for 6:00 p.m. the day prior to your departure. Meetings will be held either at our office or your hotel. Should this timing be inconvenient, please arrange an alternate session with a “Sunrise Peru Trek” team member. These informative sessions will last approximately 30 to 45 minutes. During this time, you will receive your duffel bags and have the chance to ask your guide any questions you may have.

Hotel Pickup:

One of our distinguishing features is our hotel pickup service. If your accommodation is located in the central area of Cusco, we will organize the pickup at a time agreed upon during the briefing. Pickup times generally range from 30 to 45 minutes, influenced by traffic conditions and prior collections. Cusco’s historic charm comes with narrow, cobblestone streets that often restrict vehicle access to some hotels, especially those situated on steep inclines. To ensure smooth logistics, we recommend choosing accommodations with easier accessibility.

Return to Cusco:

Upon completing the trek, our private transport along with your guide will escort you back to your hotel in Cusco. This exclusive service aims to ensure a seamless and comfortable return, giving you the opportunity to unwind and reminisce about your trekking experiences. Our vehicles are designed to provide maximum comfort, and your guide will be on hand throughout the journey to address any queries you might have, ensuring your trip concludes on a high note.

The Trekking Groups:

The number of participants in our 7-day Espiritupampa Trekking groups typically varies between 2 to 12 individuals. For groups exceeding 12 participants, we can make necessary adjustments to accommodate everyone. The optimal group size of 12 is intended to maintain a personalized and attentive trekking experience. However, we possess the capability to efficiently manage larger groups if required. In addition to the trekking group, our local staff will be available to assist you throughout your journey.

Trekking with Sunrise Peru Trek is not solely about exploring stunning landscapes; it is about gaining valuable insights into the regions you visit. Our knowledgeable guides enrich your adventure with their extensive understanding of local culture and history. To ensure your journey is comfortable, porters and horses are available to carry your luggage, allowing you to fully enjoy the trek.

Meals:

During the 7-day Espiritupampa Trekking, you will have the opportunity to savor traditional Peruvian cuisine, specialized mountain foods, and various international dishes like Chinese, Mexican, and Italian. We cater to vegetarian preferences and special dietary needs with an excellent alternate menu. Throughout the trek, you will receive full board meals. Breakfast generally includes cereals, bread, and egg dishes. Lunch features salads, cooked vegetables, pasta, and traditional breads. Dinner comprises hearty servings of soup, vegetables, meat, rice, and pasta dishes. Tea or coffee is available at all meals, and properly boiled water is served during breakfast and dinner.

Our experienced cook prepares hygienic and delectable meals, providing not just energy but also a taste of Peru’s diverse culinary heritage. We emphasize proper hygiene practices to ensure safe food handling and preparation. Understanding the importance of nutritious meals during demanding treks, we carefully select ingredients and focus on quality and flavor in every meal.

Climate:

Weather conditions can be unpredictable. Although Cusco’s dry season usually spans from April to October, rain can still occur in May, and warm spells can appear in December. Thus, we urge you to be well-prepared. Regardless of the season, carry rain gear including a waterproof jacket, pants, poncho, and gloves. Preparation for varying weather conditions is crucial.

The 7-day Espiritupampa Trek traverses multiple microclimates, necessitating readiness for all seasons. Wearing layers is essential for adjusting to changing temperatures easily. Nights will be cold due to the elevation, so a warm winter jacket is necessary. A high-quality sleeping bag is recommended for cold nights, and don’t forget sunscreen and sunglasses to guard against the intense high-altitude sun.

Safety and Precaution:

A 7-day, 6-night trek to Espiritu Pampa is a challenging hike across the Andes, and altitude sickness is a potential risk. Proper acclimatization is vital; thus, we recommend staying in Cusco or a similar elevation for at least two days before starting the trek. Our Trekking Package includes an acclimatization program to help mitigate altitude sickness. Equally important is taking necessary precautions throughout the trek to avoid health issues.

With “Sunrise Peru Trek”, you are accompanied by reliable, experienced, and well-equipped staff dedicated to ensuring your safety and success. Our local trekking guides and team members offer a double layer of safety assurance, making your trekking experience both enjoyable and secure.

Travel Insurance:

Securing travel insurance is essential for your trekking preparation. It acts as a safeguard against unforeseen events, such as medical emergencies, trip cancellations, and lost luggage. Ensure that your insurance policy covers high-altitude trekking up to 4,500 meters, which is the approximate altitude of Espiritu Pampa. Opt for comprehensive plans that include emergency evacuation and repatriation. Reliable travel insurance provides peace of mind, allowing you to concentrate on the remarkable adventure that lies ahead.

What is Espiritupampa

What is Espiritupampa?

Espiritupampa, often referred to as the “Last City of the Incas,” is a hidden archaeological gem nestled in the dense jungles of the Vilcabamba region in Peru. This remote and enigmatic site played a crucial role during the final years of the Inca resistance against Spanish conquest. Believed to be the last refuge of the Incas after the fall of their empire, Espiritupampa is shrouded in mystery and intrigue. Excavations over the years have uncovered remnants of ancient structures, terraces, and ceremonial spaces, providing insight into the resilient spirit and ingenuity of the Incas. Unlike its more famous counterpart, Machu Picchu, Espiritupampa offers a unique blend of history and adventure, inviting visitors to step off the beaten path and explore a sacred and lesser-known chapter of Peru’s past.

What to Expect

Prepare for the Espiritupampa Trekking Expedition

Prepare for an enriching 7-day adventure through the breathtaking Andes on the Espiritupampa Trekking expedition. While our itinerary is carefully planned, flexibility is key as weather conditions, trail challenges, or participant health may necessitate adjustments.

Our journey begins with a scenic drive from Cusco to Huancacalle, situated at 3,100 meters (10,170 feet). Upon arrival, you will be greeted by your dedicated team, including a horseman and cook, who will ensure your trek is both comfortable and enjoyable. The adventure kicks off with a 4-hour hike that introduces you to the remarkable Inca archaeological sites of Vitcos and Ñustahispana, offering a fascinating glimpse into the region’s rich history.

One of the key challenges of the trek is ascending to the highest pass at 4,100 meters (13,451 feet), testing your endurance and rewarding you with awe-inspiring panoramic views. From there, we descend into diverse farmlands and vibrant tropical regions, witnessing the dramatic shift in landscapes and climates as we progress.

The highlight of the trek is reaching the enigmatic site of Espiritupampa, a place shrouded in mystery and historical significance. Nestled in the Vilcabamba region, Espiritupampa served as the Incas’ capital from 1536 to 1572. Its historical importance was further amplified by the 2011 discovery of the Huari culture tomb, famously known as “Lord Huari of Vilcabamba.” This remarkable find revealed that the site not only housed an illustrious chapter of the Inca Empire but also traces back to an earlier colony, reshaping our understanding of ancient civilizations in the region.

This unforgettable trekking experience blends physical challenge with cultural and historical exploration, offering a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to connect with the wonders of the Andes.
