The Inca Trail Camps are subject to its availability; who book first have the best camp or at less you can choose the one you like. If you are trekking to Machu Picchu, book in advance.
While trekking the Classic Inca Trail to Machu Picchu, you will find campsites along the way, well signposted and signposted. Travel agencies cannot set up their campsites in places NOT marked. It would not be safe for the group and the place would be depredated.
For all Trekking companies, the campsites are pre-assigned by the governing body that controls the Inca Trail (Ministry of Culture). There is a limited capacity for campers, so everything needs to be arranged and agreed in advance (500 person a day for 4-days trekking and 250 persons for 2-day trekking known as the short Inca Trail).
The guards permanently protect the camping areas, you will be safe, without annoying noise. The security guard will be in charge of controlling any risk that may arise.
In the camping areas there is no electricity or mobile phone network, so it is recommended to take the appropriate precautions. Take a personal flashlight, charge your batteries in advance and get ready to enjoy a starry sky, and depending on the day you will have the light of the full moon.
There are three established camps where you can spend the night: Huayllabamba, Pacaymayo and Wiñayhuayna (or Puyupatamarca).

How are the camps on Inca Trail to Machu Picchu?
- During the Inca Trail, there are properly marked camping areas. Travel agencies cannot set up their campsites in unidentified places.
- Basic hygiene services can be found in the camps. In the last camp (Wiñayhuayna or Phuyupatamarca) you can find basic showers.
- In the camps, there is no electrical system, no Internet network, no cell phone signal. It is recommended to take the necessary precautions. Bring a flashlight, get spare batteries or portable chargers.
- The camps are ideal to disconnect from the world and appreciate the multiple stars drawn in the sky.
The camps on the Inca Trail to Machu Picchu
Three camping areas have been set up for Inca Trail trekkers to Machu Picchu. With basics facilities
1.- Huayllabamba Camp
The Inca Trail camp – Huayllabamba 3,000masl
This camp is located to 6 hours of trekking from the beginning point (KM 104 or Pisqhakuchu), This camp is next to a community named as a Huayllabamba. The camp offers grassy places spread through the entire community some camps are better conserved. The families of the community take care of them. In all camps it is possible to find drinks and basics toiled. The camp is located at an altitude of 3000masl, it is not cold due to its geography. The temperature at night can fall down to 6° to 7° C.
If you are a person who are carrying all your belongings and you feel tired then, here you can find help. The locals work as a porter on the Inca Trail carrying you bag pack until the highest point or until the camp. These porters work just for a day Not for the entire trail.

2.- Pacaymayo Camp:
The Inca Trail camp – Pacaymayu 3,600masl
This is se second camp assigned for all Inca Trail Trekkers; It is located to 11km of distance from the first camp. It lies at 3,600 masl, there are basic facilities like toilets and ice-cold showers. This camp is the coldest of camp due to its location. To reach this camp you will need to conquer the highest pass named “dead woman passes” at 4,200masl, considered the hardest part of the Classic Inca Trail to Machu Picchu
3.- Wiñayhuayna Camp:
The Inca Trail Camp – Wiñayhuayna at 2,600masl
The camp site of Wiñayhuayna is located at 2,600masl; in the sub-tropical region, it is a warm camp due to the proximity to the amazon jungle. It is the last camp before Machu Picchu. All companies prefer to use this camp since from here takes only two hours to get Machu Picchu, but its capacity is limited and some others camp at Phuyupata Marka.
